Safety Standdown USA 2012 Highlights

Safety Standdown 2012 USA goes down in history as the “Sweet Sixteen” of all seminars to date.  It was a year of new beginnings, from the renovated splendor of the Hyatt Regency, to the introduction of social media, to the first winner of the Eugene Cernan Safety Award.

Over 460 attendees were on hand for the seminar’s official kick off on Tuesday, October 9th with opening remarks from today’s leaders in aviation:  Puja Mahajan, Director of Flight Operations, Bombardier Aerospace; Doug Carr, Vice President of Safety and Regulation, NBAA and the Honorable Christopher Hart, Vice Chairman, NTSB.

Safety Standdown, launched our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn presence to coincide with our website.  The social media sites are designed to keep you informed year-round.

Captain Cernan gave honors to first-year Eugene Cernan Safety Standdown Award recipient, FBI Special Agent Troy Smith, who earned the award through his representation of the safety characteristics and criteria required to win, as listed on the Safety Award page. Troy received the traveling award plus the coveted Omega Speedmaster watch.

Safety Standdown attendees were honored to have Michael Huerta, Acting Administrator, Federal Aviation Administration provide closing remarks.
